beginning-
5th
period during Nick's photojournalism class, the principle of Bowie High School
came on the speaker and announced him as Student of the Month. When asked how
did you become Student of the Month Nick said "I had good grades and I
made sure I was on top of things". When he found out he said "I
laughed and jumped up".
Student
of the Month is an award that the teachers and administration decide on and
give to one student each month that has had the best grades, attendance,
attitude, etc. during that month. The teachers and principle make sure that the
student of the Month have all of those qualities and stays on top of things
much like Nick. When they say who the award goes to the principle announces it
on the speaker so that the whole school knows who it is.
The Student
of the Month usually has a favorite part, these vary depending on who it is
awarded to.
"My
favorite part is being recognized by the whole school," student of the
month, Nick, says.
Some people
think student of the month is a great idea, but others don't like it
at all.
"I
think it is a good way to motivate students to do good in school,"
says Nick.
Being
student of the month has many advantages but it also has its disadvantages.
“People
come to you when they need help, but I also have a lot of expectations,” Nick
says.
Being
student of the month can be exhausting because you have to keep your grades up
and set a good example for other students.
“It takes
a lot of effort and studying,” Nick states when asked what being student of the
month takes from him.
Some people take this award seriously and some
think it is stupid.
“Being
student of the month is an honor, and it looks good for college,” says Nick.
